Fighting Saints Fall to Ice 6-1 in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The Fighting Saints had no answer for the Indiana Ice offense in a 6-1 loss Friday. After the Saints scored the first goal, the Ice had all the offense in their victory on home ice.

Teddy Doherty put the Fighting Saints onto the scoreboard just over three and a half minutes into the first period. Eliot Grauer worked the puck to TJ Moor, who fed Doherty at the right point. The defenseman snapped in a shot through traffic for his second goal of the season. Indiana answered back late in the frame. From the left-wing halfboards, Daniil Tarasov passed a puck to Andrew Mayer, who redirected it off the crossbar for his first goal of the season. It was the first USHL goal given up by Collin LeMay, who opened his USHL career with 97:53 of shutout hockey.

Just over two minutes into the second frame, RJ Boyd and Jacob Fallon set up Daniil Tarasov, who took the puck ahead on the rush and scored his thirteenth goal of the season. On a powerplay midway through the period, Christian Hilbrich scored from along the goal line to make it 3-1 Indiana. LeMay had his night between the pipes come to an end, as Gabe Antoni entered the game for the Fighting Saints after the third Indiana goal. Antoni kept the Ice off the scoreboard for the remainder of the period, and the two teams headed to the locker rooms for the second time with the Ice in the lead 3-1.

Robert Baillargeon scored a goal on a 2-on-1 feed from Jacob Fallon less than two minutes into the third period to put the Ice up 4-1. Fallon then fed Christian Hilbrich for a shorthanded marker a couple of minutes later. Late in the game, Ryan Cole blocked a Dubuque clearing attempt, located the puck, and fired the puck into the back of the net to make the final score 6-1.

The Fighting Saints will face off against the Ice once again tomorrow night. After Saturday's game against the Ice is played, the Fighting Saints will have only one weekend of hockey left before the Christmas break. The team will host the Lincoln Stars and the Waterloo BlackHawks in Dubuque next weekend. Those two games will begin a stretch of six consecutive home games for the Fighting Saints, a stretch that will take the team into the New Year.
