Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Fargo, ND-It may only be October, but it felt like a playoff game on Thursday night in Fargo. Mikhail Berdin stole the show with a 43-save performance while Adam Dawe scored twice as the Herd edged the Fargo Force, 2-1 at Scheels Arena. The win improved the Herd's record to 3-0-1 on the road and 3-1-1 overall. Sioux Falls is a perfect 2-0-0 against Fargo this season, including a 5-2 opening night win.
For the fifth straight game the Stampede grabbed the first goal of the game when Adam Dawe struck for the third time this season. Matt Quercia chipped the puck off the glass down the left-wing walls to Nolan Walker who skated down the left-wing boards and into the faceoff circle where he backhanded the puck across the crease to Dawe who one-timed it past Fargo goaltender Ryan Bischel. The rest of the period was highly entertaining with both teams creating some good scoring chances, but the score remained 1-0 after one period with Fargo outshooting the Herd 14-13.
The Herd wasted no time in the second period, scoring just 36 seconds into the period when Nolan Walker took the puck behind the Fargo net and sent a perfect pass into the slot for Dawe who once again one-timed the puck in to the back of the net for a 2-0 Stampede lead. Dawe has four goals in two games against the Force this season. The Force would respond at 4:42 of the period when Jacob Schmit-Svejstrup tipped in a pass inside the right circle from Ty Farmer to make it a 2-1 game. Once again both teams would put pressure on, but it remained a 2-1 game despite Fargo posting 21 shots in the period.
The excitement would continue into the third period as it remained a one-goal game throughout the period. The Force pulled their goaltender for the final 90 seconds of the game, but the Stampede defense stood tall and blocked several shots while Berdin continued his impressive play, stopping all nine shots in the period to secure the victory.
Fargo outshot the Stampede 44-31 on the night and went 0-for-5 on the power play while the Herd were 0-for-3.
The Stampede return home on Friday to face the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05 PM. On Saturday the Herd will host Waterloo at 7:05 PM for Halloween night. The first 1,500 fans will receive a free team magnet schedule while kids 12-and-under are encouraged to dress in their favorite Halloween costume and trick-or-treat in the concourse from 6 PM to 7 PM. They can also take part in a costume parade on the ice during the first intermission. Tickets for both games are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
