Shaun Morgan Named USHL Hockey Operations Manager

October 20, 2017 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

The United States Hockey League announced today that Shaun Morgan has joined the organization as Manager of Hockey Operations, effective immediately. Morgan joined the organization after the departure of Stu Wilson who was recently named an assistant coach at Culver Academy.

In his new role, Morgan will oversee roster transactions, official scoring reports, support the player safety initiatives, enforce USA Hockey rules and regulations, as well as help in the organization and planning of the league events. Morgan will report to Evan Rand, Director of Hockey Operations.

"Shaun is very familiar with the USHL and USA Hockey rules," said Rand. "His strong officiating background and time spent in the league has already proven helpful. He possesses the strong attributes that we like to see in our officials: leadership, communication skills and the ability to think quickly. We are excited to bring someone of Shaun's character and background into the league office."

Morgan comes to the USHL after a six-year career as an official that spanned the American Hockey League (AHL), ECHL and Central Hockey League (CHL). His career highlights include working four ECHL Kelly Cup Championship series and one CHL championship series. In addition to his career as a linesman, Morgan worked IIHF, USHL and NAHL games through the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program. Morgan was a linesman in the USHL from 2007-2012.

"We are very proud of Shaun and the next step he is taking in his hockey career," said Scott Zelkin, USHL Referee-In-Chief. "Shaun excelled at the USHL level once before as a linesman and advanced himself to higher levels. It wouldn't be surprising to see him advance again, now in the front office based upon his hard work."

Originally from St. Louis, MO, Morgan studied at Saint Louis University and graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2011. Morgan currently resides in Chicago, IL.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 16th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2017-18. 30 or more players from the USHL have been selected in five consecutive NHL Drafts, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world's foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
