Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Josh Dunne's goal with 8:14 left in regulation and 24 saves from Maksim Zhukov helped push the Green Bay Gamblers past the Youngstown Phantoms (1-3-1, 3 points) on Thursday at the Covelli Centre.
"I'm frustrated at this stage," said Phantoms Head Coach Brad Patterson. "There were multiple mistakes that need to be shored up."
Youngstown got out to a 1-0 lead at the 9:18 mark of the second period when Matt Thomson scored his third power play goal in as many games, blasting home a half slapper from the top of the right circle. "Matt is a threat to score anytime he's inside the blue line," said Patterson. "That's a skill that Matt has that a lot of guys strive to get."
Green Bay tied the game later in the second at 18:31. After a Youngstown turnover, Dunne brought the puck out of the corner and forced his way to the net mouth. The puck rolled off his stick and to Nolan Moyle, who stuffed the puck home for his first goal of the season.
The Gamblers scored the game winning goal at 11:46 of the third period. Dunne beat his man out of the corner and took a pass from Moyle. After a deke, Dunne slid the puck toward net, and it just trickled under the right leg of Ivan Prosvetov (26 saves) for the deciding marker. "On the second goal, we got beat back to net front," said Patterson. "We didn't take care of the puck."
Youngstown continues their homestand tomorrow with the first of three straight against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm and broadcasts will be available on YPHR and HockeyTV.
