Stampede close out regular season at home

The Playoffs are coming and the Stampede now know who they will play in the first round-Tri-City. The Storm clinched the fourth and final playoff spot when they topped the Stampede 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night and Sioux City fell to Waterloo 5-1. The Stampede are the number one overall seed for the playoffs. The Stampede hold a 6-1-1 record against the Storm this season.

The Stampede are currently working with Tri-City to work out a schedule for the upcoming series. The playoffs will officially begin next week. A complete schedule along with single game ticket information will be made available in the near future.

Stampede Set Franchise Records

The Stampede broke two more team records over the weekend. With a 3-2 win at Sioux City Friday night and an overtime point against Tri-City Saturday, the Herd set a team record for most wins in a season (41) and points (85). The old record for wins was 40 and the record for points was 82, both set back during the 2001-02 season. The Herd enter the final week of the regular season with a 41-13-3 record.

The Herd will close out the regular season this week with a road game tonight (Tuesday) in Cedar Rapids before returning home for their final regular season home series against Green Bay, Thursday and Friday at 7:05 PM.

"Take My Jersey Night" this Friday

Friday night is Sioux Falls Ford & Saturn of Sioux Falls "Take My Jersey Night" presented by KRRO 103.7 FM and Midcontinent Communications. 23 game-worn authentic jerseys will be raffled and given away at the end of the game. Fans can purchase raffle tickets in the front lobby prior to the game and through the 10 minute mark of the second period. Raffle tickets cost $5 per chance or $10 for three chances.

NCAA HOCKEY TOURNEY SET

The 2006 NCAA Division One Hockey field of 16 was unveiled Sunday and the Stampede have 15 former players playing for the ultimate goal in college hockey, a national championship. Regional play will begin this Friday and continue through Sunday with four winners advancing to the NCAA Frozen Four, April 6 & 8 in Milwaukee.

Jim McKenzie and the Michigan State Spartans secured the #1 seed in the East Regional after defeating Miami in the championship game of the CCHA tournament. Big Mac assisted on the game winning goal. Elsewhere, T.J. Oshie tallied a goal and an assist during the championship game of the WCHA Final Five in which North Dakota defeated St. Cloud State 5-3. The Fighting Sioux are the #2 seed in the Midwest Regional, which will be played in Grand Forks.
