
Stampede Acquire Marcus Banks

BOISE, Idaho, February 1, 2012 - The Idaho Stampede acquired guard Marcus Banks (6-2, 205, UNLV), the club announced today.
Banks played eight seasons in the NBA from 2003-2011 with Boston, Minnesota, Phoenix, Miami and Toronto. Banks played 348 games (37 starts) in his NBA career - including 81 games in his rookie and second season with the Celtics - with averages of 5.9 points, 2.1 assists and 1.5 rebounds, while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 76.8 percent from the free throw line. Banks' best season came in 2005-06, when he split time between Boston and Minnesota, when he averaged 10.0 points, 3.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. In his playoff career, Banks averaged 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 13 games with Boston and Phoenix.
Born November 19, 1981, Banks was selected 13th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2003 NBA Draft, before being traded (along with Kendrick Perkins) to Boston on draft night. Originally from Las Vegas, Banks played two seasons at Dixie State College of Utah, before transferring to UNLV, where he was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in the Mountain West Conference.
Banks will suit up for this weekend's games against Rio Grande Valley, when the Stampede will wear pink jerseys in recognition of breast cancer awareness. The players' jerseys, including Banks', are up for auction on AuctionFrogs.org, with proceeds going to St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute. Banks will wear jersey number 11.
