Saugerties Stallions News Release
Saugerties, NY - The Saugerties Stallions hosted the Albany Dutchman in a pitching matchup between starting pitchers Greg Marino (Stony Brook) and Noah Stone (Arkansas State) on Friday, June 15.
The Dutchmen struck first after Jerry Huntzinger (Seton Hall) doubled to score Griffen Herrera (Azusa Pacific), giving them a 1-0 lead.
Marino was dominating for Albany, holding the Stallions hitless until the fifth inning. Albany would go on to take control of the game in the fifth, scoring five runs. Herrera started the scoring by hitting a two-run double. Huntzinger had a bunt single and scored after a throwing error ended up in the outfield.
Cole McNamee (Wake Forest) added an RBI single in the inning, before Cameron Collett (Marshall) capped off the inning with a sac fly, giving Albany a 6-0 lead.
Saugerties scored one in the sixth after a John Dempsey (Wofford) RBI-triple scored Herman Alvarado (Nyack).
Albany would not let up. They came back in the seventh to score three more. A passed ball and throwing error by Stallions catcher, Cameron Comer (Virginia) allowed two runs to score. Cameron Masterman (Louisville) also added an RBI-single in the inning giving the Dutchman a 9-1 lead, which they would hang onto and earn the victory and improve to 7-3 on the year.
Saugerties only managed four hits on the night but Albany set the tone early by recording thirteen hits for the night. The Stallions sloppy defense continued to hurt as they had four on the night, which led to a couple unearned runs and help aid them to a 4-8 record.
The two teams will meet each other again on Saturday, June 15 as the Dutchmen will host the Stallions.
