Kalamazoo, MI- Stadium Management Company (SMC), which operates the Wings Stadium Complex, announces the purchase of S2 Arena (formally Twin Star).
Built in 2002, S2 Arena, which has two regulation hockey rinks and a full service restaurant, is home to roller hockey, figure skating, as well as youth and adult hockey,
The acquisition of S2 Arena started this past May when ownership of the facility engaged in a conversation with SMC to manage the complex. After researching the opportunity, SMC came to the conclusion that purchasing S2 Arena, which is located at 5076 Sports Drive in Kalamazoo, was in the best interest of all parties, and most importantly, the community.
"With doing our due diligence it became clear that to better serve the community we need to operate all five ice rinks," said Paul L. Pickard, president of Stadium Management Company. "Our goal with this acquisition is to be a model community for all ice related activities in the United States, provide an opportunity for any individual that wants to participate in an ice-related sport at a recreational and/or competitive level and to have our community as it relates to ice-related sports to work together."
An open house to unveil future plans for S2 Arena will occur later this month.
Stadium Management Company owns both the Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team. The Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and can seat up to 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings along with the newly acquired S2 Arena are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.
