Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
Oh Boy! Oh Boy! My side of the rink is full of elementary students. They started stomping their feet and I thought we were having an earthquake. Bless their little hearts
Caleb Neal gets his first opportunity in goal this morning as we play the annual "get up early and ride the bus to St. Louis game". We wish him the best of luck in his first start of the regular season NAHL career.
This is probably the biggest crowd the Bandits have all year. They do this for the kids and it's a really neat thing for the organization to do. The best thing is what the kids get out of it. They heard the Bandits Assistant Coach tell them about being prepared and to paraphrase, if you're not working all the time to improve and better yourself, you're sliding backwards. Besides that, they enjoy cheering for those darn Bandits. Oh, if we could only talk to them for awhilewe might be able to steer straight. Laugh out Loud.
Anyway, let's go Blues!
The Blues came out to play, but passing and puck control have not been their strong suit throughout the first period. St. Louis found the back of the net three times during the first, one of the goals coming on a double penalty on the Jr. Blues which gave the Bandits a five on three, two man advantage. The Jr. Blues were also out shot by St. Louis twelve to six. This looks to be a long game, unless the good guys can turn things around. Period two is on the way.
The Jr. Blues passed a little better, but still need to do better. The good guys are still losing too many face offs and having too many passes go awry. Still the guys played better in the second as the two teams traded one goal apiece. The score at the end of two periods is four to one. Period three on the way.
The third period saw the Blues score twice and come back to within a goal, but this was, after all, St. Louis, and they found the back of the net two more times to salt away another win by a score of 6 - 4.
The team played hard and kept encouraging Caleb after each Bandit goal. It was a tough game for any rookie goalie to find himself in, but Neal worked hard throughout the game. He had his team's support and he played his best hockey during the second period that I've seen him play. Anytime you go up against St. Louis though any mistakes are magnified by their play. Still, all in all the rookie goalie held his own!
Now, it's on to Port Huron. Let's go Blues!
