St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
ST. PAUL, MN- St. Paul (8-6, 37-25) did it again to the Blacksnakes. For the third time at Midway Stadium, the Saints rallied for a last at-bat victory, 7-6, over St. Joe (6-9, 32-31). The difference was a Brian Buchanan two-run home run in the eighth inning.
The game went back-and-forth with St. Joe scoring a run in the first, only to see St. Paul send nine men to plate in the bottom half and score four two-out runs for a 4-1 lead against starter Donovan Graves.
As Graves settled in, and Cody Nowlin powered the comeback for the 'Snakes with a three-run home run in the fourth to tie the game at four apiece. After St. Paul scored in the fifth, St. Joe jumped back in front with two runs in the sixth when Nowlin singled in Mark Burke and then scored on a wild pitch to lead, 6-5.
But in the eighth, Brian Buchanan launched his second home run of the series, a two-run shot that gave St. Paul the lead, 7-6. Saints closer Matt Hammons made it interesting as St. Joe loaded the bases with two out in the ninth, but Mark Burke grounded out to end the game.
Buchanan is 7-for-9 with 13 RBIs in the first two games of the series against the 'Snakes.
The series concludes Saturday night at 7:05pm. Andrew Edwards (1-3) takes the hill for St. Joe against Justin Lord (7-1) for St. Paul. The webcast begins at 6:45pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show. The Blacksnakes then head home for a three-game series with Sioux Falls that begins Sunday at Phil Welch Stadium at 7:05pm.
