Orange County Flyers News Release

After not being able to celebrate with his former teammates during their division clinching sweep, Monte Mansfield held a party of his own with his new team.

Mansfield led his new team, the St. George Road Runners (2-0), over his old team, the Orange County Flyers (27-15) as St. George swept a doubleheader Saturday from the Flyers 7-4.

In his first start of the season, Mansfield kept the Road Runners in the game, silencing the Flyers for the last two innings of his outing, still capturing two strike outs on the evening.

Greg Lemon stayed hot against the Flyers going two for four in the night cap with two runs scored. , Seth Loman added a three hit performance in four at bats to help give Mansfield the victory.

St. George jumped out early, with Stevenson and Lemon both singling to start the inning and moving to 2nd and 3rd on a Charlie Merricks balk. Wiki Gonzalez plated Stevenson with a sacrifice fly to deep left to give the Road Runners the first lead of the game. Lemon then came around on a two out single by Seth Loman.

But the Flyers rudely welcomed back their former teammate Monte Mansfield. After David Bacani and Jermy Acey singled, Mansfield walked Breen to load the bases. Jeff LaRue then unloaded on a full count down the left field line to clear the bases for a three run double.

Wiki Gonzalez tied the game in the third with a solo homer that just cleared the wall in striaght away center.

Orange County answered back as David Bacani got all the way to third on a dropped fly ball and an additional throwing error and was subsequently cashed in on an Acey sacrifice fly.

St. George was able to tie the game again in the fourth when Dimick walked before an error in the infield was able to score him.

The Road Runners regained the lead for the first time since the first in the fifth when Serrano's sac fly to shallow right scored Claudio Arias on a close play.

St. George added an insurance run against Dane De La Rosa in the sixth when Wayment walked and then scored on a Greg Lemon RBI single. Lemon then scored when Arias ripped a single into center field.

Mansfield, Anthony Pluta, and Bartolome Fortunato combined to retire the final 13 Flyer batters in the victory.

Both teams will take the next four days off for the all-star break.
