Orange County Flyers News Release
What started as an offensive exhibition turned into a route as the St. George Road Runners (1-0) were able to out muscle the Orange County Flyers (27-14) in the first game of a double header Saturday Night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.
Due to odd scheduling, the game was the first game of the second half for St. George but one of six remaining games in the first half for the Flyers.
The St. George offense scored at least one run in each of the first four innings before coasting to a 10-4 victory over the Flyers. Greg Lemon continued his assault on Orange County pitching staff, going 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored to pace the Road Runners.
Seth Loman also contributed heavily, going 2-4 with three RBI including a two run homer.
St. George's starter, Donald Furrow, settled down after allowing two runs in each of the first two innings to pick up his first win of the season to improve to 1-0.
The Flyers' starter Eric Sheridan was not as lucky. Sheridan surrendered ten runs but only five of those were earned due to shaky Orange County defense.
St. George grabbed an early lead as Greg Lemon singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Cody Nowlin. Seth Loman stretched out the lead just a few pitches later on a two run homer over the left field wall.
Orange County answered back in the first as Mark Okano started the inning off with a single and a stolen base. Jermy Acey was beaned, before Jeff LaRue tripled down the right field to score two.
Wiki Gonzalez singled to start the Road Runner third before Dustin Hicks followed likewise. Liu Rodriguez was able to plate Gonzalez on a groundout to give St. George the lead.
Eric Sheridan got into trouble in the second but was able to minimize the damage. After an early error, Sheridan hit two batters and walked one to force in a run.
Jeff Van Houten started the second off with a double and scored on Travon Jackson's double. Jackson was then plated on a David Bacani Sac Fly to tie the game at four.
But St. George was able to open up a lead in the third. Wiki Gonzalez and Dustin Hicks singled before a ground out from Rodriguez plated Gonzalez. With two outs, an error by the Flyers defense extending the inning allowing three more to score in the inning.
The Road Runners added two more in the fourth as Nowlin reached on an error to start the inning before scoring on Loman double. Loman was able to score on a Gonzalez single on the next play.
Jermy Acey singled in Okano in the seventh, and the Flyers put two on but couldn't get any closer as Billy Simon shut the door in the seventh.
Ezequiel Ruvalcaba pitched three excellent innings of relief, allowing just two runners on via the walk but surrendered no hits to keep the defecit at six.
