RICHMOND, VA - Clay Timpner broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning, lifting the Richmond Flying Squirrels to a 4-3 victory over the Bowie Baysox in front of 7,073 at The Diamond on Saturday night.

Timpner's single came off of Bowie left-hander Chad Thall and plated Brad Boyer who had walked to start the inning. Thall (2-1) was tagged with his first defeat of the season.

Brock Bond ignited the offense quickly for the Squirrels, leading off the first inning with a single against Bowie right-hander Eddie Gamboa. Gamboa struck out Boyer, but Conor Gillaspie launched a two-run home run to right field to give Richmond a 2-0 lead. Sharlon Schoop followed the blast with a single and came around to score two batters later when Nick Noonan singled for a 3-0 advantage.

Bowie struck back with a run against left-hander Jake Stevens in the second. Joel Guzman drilled a lead-off double on one hop off the wall in center field. Joe Mahoney singled him to third, and the Baysox got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Caleb Joseph.

The Baysox pulled even in the third after Stevens conceded a two-out single to Danny Figueroa. Ryan Adams followed with a two-run home run to left field to even the score, 3-3.

Stevens worked to a no-decision over four innings in his final outing of the year. He allowed three earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out six. Gamboa rebounded to work through the sixth inning, and also didn't register a decision.

David Mixon (11-7) worked four scoreless innings of relief and earned his 11th victory in his final appearance of the season. Right-hander Ronnie Ray worked a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 5:05 PM on Sunday night at The Diamond. RHP Craig Westcott (3-3, 5.70) will make the start for Richmond against RHP Steve Johnson (7-8, 5.35) for the Baysox.
