
Spurs Defeat Hornets in Summer League Opener

SACRAMENTO - The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Charlotte Hornets 98-77 in their first game in the California Classic Summer League on Monday night at the Golden 1 Center.
Julian Champagnie scored a game-high 30 points, to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals while Dom Barlow recorded a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Blake Wesley chipped in 8 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds.
San Antonio jumped out to a quick 15-2 lead in the first five minutes and led 30-11 after one. The Silver and Black continued to build on their lead in the second quarter taking a 60-33 lead into halftime. Charlotte would cut the Spurs lead down to 21, 74-53, late in the third but could get any closer. San Antonio limited the Hornets to 39.4 percent shooting and outrebounded Charlotte 51-26.
Brandon Miller led Hornets with 18 points while James Bouknight and Nick Smith Jr. both added 12 points.
The Spurs will face the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday with tipoff at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
