Springfield Falcons Sign Defensemen Mike Cornell and Nathan Oystrick

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons have signed defensemen Mike Cornell and Nathan Oystrick to professional tryout contracts, Falcons Director of Hockey Operations Bruce Landon announced today.
Cornell, 26, has played in nine games this season with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, where he has earned three points (1g, 2a) and 15 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11 defenseman has appeared in 35 AHL games, all with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, where he acquired 10 points (4g, 6a) and 78 penalty minutes. Cornell has skated in a career total of 47 ECHL games, tallying 18 points (3g, 15a), 79 penalty minutes and a +14 rating.
The Franklin, Massachusetts native also had a four year career at the University of Maine, posting 29 points (5g, 24a) to go along with 139 penalty minutes in 128 games. Prior to his collegiate career, Cornell spent one season with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL, earning 27 points (6g, 21a) and 80 penalty minutes in 45 match-ups.
Oystrick, 31, spent the 2013-14 and 2012-13 seasons with Prague Lev of the KHL, where he appeared in 86 contests, earning 25 points (5g, 20a) to go with his 78 penalty minutes and a +9 rating. The 6-foot, 210-pound defenseman has skated in a career total 65 NHL games with Atlanta, Anaheim and St. Louis, accumulating 15 points (5g, 10a) and 61 penalty minutes. Oystrick is also a veteran of 326 AHL games, where he racked up 202 points (63g, 139a), 549 penalty minutes and a +31 rating.
Prior to his pro career, the Regina, Saskatchewan native spent four years at Northern Michigan University, tallying 89 points (26g, 63a) and 269 penalty minutes in 151 appearances. He also notched 101 points (24g, 77a) to go along with 372 penalty minutes in 110 contests with the South Surrey Eagles of the BCHL.
Oystrick was drafted in the seventh round, 198th overall, by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
