
Springfield Armor Offer Basketball Camp

SPRINGFIELD, MA April 7, 2010 - The Springfield Armor today announced that they have partnered with Assistant Coach Kevin Whitted and the YMCA of Greater Springfield to bring the youth of the Springfield area the "Kevin Whitted Basketball Academy". The academy is a five day basketball camp starting on April 19th and extending until the 23rd. Each day will consist of three one-hour time slots in which different age groups will be able to participate. The first session will start at 5 p.m. and that will include 8-10 year olds. The next session will begin at 6 p.m. and will include 11-13 year olds and the final session will start at 7 p.m. and will include 14-17 year olds. "This camp is going to be a lot of fun, but also will consist of a lot of teaching" said Armor Assistant Coach Kevin Whitted, "I'm excited to show these kids the fundamentals of basketball and meet the youth in this area."
The camp is open to boys and girls ages 8-17 and the price of admission for all five sessions is only $50. Each participant will be provided with a camp t-shirt. The camp will take place at the YMCA of Greater Springfield located at 275 Chestnut Street in downtown Springfield in the second floor gymnasium. "The YMCA of Greater Springfield is happy to host the Armor's Basketball Camp" commented James Morton, Director of the YMCA of Greater Springfield, "We have been working with the Armor all year and are grateful for what they bring to the community. With an ownership group led by Massachusetts-based Michael Savit, NBA Springfield was announced as the NBA Development League's second team in New England during a press conference at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on March 31. Between November 27th and April 2nd the Springfield Armor played a 50-game schedule, including 24 home dates at the MassMutual Center.
