Sporting KC II Takes Advantage of Tired Energy FC
September 4, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
OKC Energy FC News Release
A third win in seven days proved too tall of an order as a depleted Energy FC side fell on the road at Sporting KC II Saturday evening.
The hosts applied most of the pressure in the first half and were rewarded in the 20th minute when Isaiah LeFlore's cross from the left found Ozzie Cisneros, who side footed past CJ Cochran from eight yards.
Despite limited chances early in the match, the Greens almost leveled the score in the second minute of stoppage time. Villyan Bijev nodded a long ball directly into the path of Jaime Chavez in the penalty area, but a last-ditch tackle prevented the equalizer.
After an even start to the second half, substitute Rojay Smith doubled the lead with his first involvement of the match. Smith got on the end of LeFlore's long ball over the top down the left, dribbled into the box and fired low and to the corner to beat Cochran.
Sporting sealed the points in the 79th minute through Enoch Mushagalusa. In similar fashion to Smith, Mushagalusa was able to drive into the box from the right side, create some space and shoot low and to the corner for the final goal of the match.
Energy FC remains on 29 points and in 4th place in the Central Division.
The Greens return home to Taft Stadium on Sunday, September 12 at 5 p.m. CT against Louisville City FC. Tickets are available at energyfc.com/september12.
