Sporting Club Jacksonville News Release

Thursday morning marked business as usual for Sporting JAX's Gainbridge Super League, but with a slight twist. The club hosted an open-to-the-public training session presented by Ascension St. Vincent's, inviting the local youth soccer community to attend.

This took place at Veterans Park in St. John's, Florida, the home base of Sporting JAX Soccer Academy. The disappointment of preseason cancellations stung for players and fans alike, but Thursday morning helped sweeten things a bit.

The squad started off with the usual: strength and conditioning drills with Head of Performance Steve Fell. Following were more fun drills and exercises with Head Coach Stacey Balaam that the gathered fans got to experience.

In a nearly-cruel twist of fate, dark clouds began creeping in. It momentarily seemed as though the club may never be able to escape Florida's wild summer weather, but things held off and the storms stayed away throughout the remainder of the morning.

The excitement truly began when training ended and the interaction with fans began.

Kids and parents alike were excited to meet the squad, who were equally excited to meet the fans who'd spent their morning watching them train. Autographs were signed, photos were taken, and memories were made.

Sporting JAX's players signed just about anything one can imagine: from posters to soccer balls, and even forearms. While it may just be a couple of hours on a weekday morning, moments like these help give young footballers local stars to look up to as they aspire to rise up the ranks of the sport they love.

Tune into the Sporting JAX Report this Saturday at 12:30 PM on NBC12 to see more of the action from Thursday's training session.
