Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. -- The Spokane Chiefs fell 3-2 in a shootout at the hand of the Kamloops Blazers Friday night at Spokane Arena. Spokane outshot the Blazers 42-26 and held the edge in faceoff wins 23-12, but was held to just 1-for-7 in the power play.
Forward Jermaine Loewen got the Blazers on the board early when he found a loose puck on a rebound and pushed it under Chiefs netminder Dawson Weatherill for a power play goal to make it 1-0 just under five minutes into the first period.
Spokane defenseman Nolan Reid checked in with his third goal of the season, taking a setup pass from fellow blueliner Filip Kral for a power play goal of his own, tying the game at 1-1 7:55 into the second frame. Kral went on to score a goal himself later in the period, lasering one in from the top of the left circle, pushing the Chiefs ahead 2-1 at 10:23.
Kamloops pulled even as the second period wound down when defenseman Joe Gatenby gathered a rebound net front and chipped the puck into the corner of the net with 17:49 expired. [related_links]
Regulation ended with things deadlocked at 2-2, and after an overtime goal by C Jaret Anderson-Dolan was waived off due to incidental contact with the Kamloops netminder, the teams headed to a shootout. Shootout scores by Blazers Connor Zary and Garrett Pilon were enough to seal the victory.
Spokane dropped to 6-5-0-1 on the season while Kamloops improves their record to 3-9-0-0.
The Chiefs return home on Friday, November 3rd as they play host to the Portland Winterhawks on Avista "Way to Save" & Glow Bracelet Giveaway Night. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive glow bracelets, courtesy of Avista.
Tickets for that game and all Chiefs home games are available in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at 509-535-PUCK and online at spokanechiefs.com.
