Spokane Chiefs News Release
Coming off their biggest offensive output since 2008, the Spokane Chiefs will finish their six game road trip with four games in five nights beginning on Tuesday night when they visit the Saskatoon Blades. Mike Boyle goes on the air at 5:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 1510 KGA.
Spokane sits at 1-1 through the first two games with a loss in Moose Jaw and an 11-1 win at Regina on Saturday night. The 11 goals were the most they have scored since an 11-2 win at Edmonton on February 14th, 2009 and marked just the seventh time they have scored double digit goals in franchise history.
The Chiefs last scored 11 goals on the road on January 16th, 1999 at Medicine Hat with an 11-2 win. The mark falls one goal short of the most goals scored by the Chiefs on the road, a record that was set in their first year of existence following a 12-9 win on March 22nd, 1986. The most goals ever scored by the Chiefs is 16 on January 30th, 1988 in a 16-7 win over Moose Jaw in the "Boone Street Barn".
Spokane's 11 goals on Saturday helped them jump up to fourth in the WHL at 4.08 goals scored per game. Their 9-9 stretch on the penalty kill through the first two games of the swing has put them in fifth in the league at an 84.8% kill. The Chiefs have allowed just three power play goals in 33 chances on the road for the best penalty kill away from home at 91.2%. Spokane's power play is 10 for their last 33 over the last six games.
Just two points separate third and fifth place in the U.S. Division as Seattle and Everett have 14 points and the Chiefs have 12. Spokane is in the middle of 10 straight games against teams from outside the division.
Spokane will play at Prince Albert on Wednesday, Brandon on Friday and Swift Current Saturday.
