Spits Suffer Disappointing Setback In 7-5 Loss To Petes

Former Spitfire Michael Clarke made the most of his return to Windsor, scoring twice as Peterborough shocked the Spitfires in a 7-5 win before 5,573 at the WFCU Centre Thursday.

Dealt at the trade deadline for defenceman Slater Koekkoek, Clarke knotted the game at 1-1 at 4:03 of the first period with his 9th of the year, then scored the game winner at 10:45 of the third period.

Nick Ebert, Kerby Rychel, Remy Giftopoulos, Brady Vail and Ben Johnson scored for Windsor (20-22-1-6), which remains six point back of Saginaw for eighth in the Western Conference.

Rychel's team-leading 27th of the season cut the lead to 4-2 on a power play at 5:36 of the second period.

After Stephan Nosad made it 5-2 Peterborough at 9:03, the Spits rattled off three goals in a nine-minute stretch to tie the game after 40 minutes.

But they'd get no closer.

After Clarke's second of the night, goaltender Jordan DeKort "" who came on in relief of Jaroslav Pavelka after Nosad's goal "" got caught halfway between the bench and the net in an attempt to get an extra attacker on the ice as Greg Betzold's scored his sixth of the season into an empty net to finish things off at 18:48 of the third period.

The Spits are right back at it on Friday night, as they take on the Storm in Guelph.
