Windsor Spitfires News Release
General Manager Warren Rychel announced this morning the club has acquired forward Emerson Clark and Sault Ste Marie's 3rd round pick in 2014 from Oshawa. In exchange, the Spitfires have sent forward Hunter Smith and Windsor's 6th round pick in 2015 to the Generals.
Additionally, Windsor has sent Ottawa's 4th round pick in 2014 to Oshawa to complete the Jeff Brown trade made back on December 31st, 2010.
"We want to thank Hunter Smith for everything he did in Windsor," said Rychel. "This will provide him a better opportunity to play in his draft year. With so many 94s on our club, it was going to be hard for him to crack the lineup."
"Emerson Clark plays a rugged style and we needed some more grit in our division, where it's a physical battle every night. Emerson will provide us with toughness and the ability to chip in offensively."
Clark, 19, enters his fourth season in the Ontario Hockey League. From 2009 through 2012, the 5'10, 180-pound winger suited up for 147 games, all with Oshawa, recording 19 goals and seven assists along with 365 penalty minutes.
Smith, 17, split time between the Spitfires and LaSalle Vipers last season. In 15 games with Windsor, he registered 19 penalty minutes and a -6 rating.
Clark is expected to arrive in Windsor today, and will be in the lineup Thursday night, as the Spits take on the Owen Sound Attack in their season opener.
