Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON.
The Spitfires were too little too late as they tried to make a valiant comeback in the third period but fell short. The Spitfires fell to a record of 1-6-0 to start the season.
In the first period, both teams traded chances as the netminders stood tall. A hooking call on the Spitfires resulted in a penalty shot for former Spitfire, Ethan Miedema. He went in and tried to go five-hole and Costanzo shut the door. The Spitfires had a powerplay opportunity a few seconds after that but were unsuccessful. The period ended with no score as the Spitfires led 13-7 in shots.
In the second frame, the Fronts would get on the board quickly just 1:01 into the frame. The Spitfires fought back and tied the game up just over two minutes later. Cristoforo sent Greentree on a breakaway and he made no mistake for his 5th goal of the season. The Fronts would score 2 goals exactly 6 minutes apart to take a 3-1 lead heading into the third period. Shots were 24-18 for the Spitfires.
In the third period, the Fronts would tack on 2 more to take a commanding 5-1 lead. The Spitfires would try to rally back with two quick goals from Nesbitt and Dionicio, it was a 5-4 game with 4:08 to play. The Fronts would score an empty netter to make it 6-3 and seconds later the Spits would respond with Cristoforo scoring his first of the season to make it 6-4. The Fronts would take the win 6-4.
The Spitfires hit the road for two games on Saturday in Erie and Sunday in Kitchener. Windsor returns home on Saturday October 21st to take on Saginaw. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
