
Spitfires Take on Divisional Rival Soo on Thursday

Windsor, ON - The Spitfires won big on Saturday night in a surprising victory over a very good Sudbury team that is 1st in the Eastern Conference. An 11-7 win with multi point games from Spellacy, Zito, Zhugin and Abraham set the boys up for a win.
The Spitfires currently sit seven points out of the final playoff spot with two games in hand. They have their eyes set on the Soo Greyhounds on Thursday before a weekend away in Brantford and Oshawa. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm on Thursday at the WFCU Centre.

Head-to-Head:
The Spitfires head into Thursday's game placed last in the OHL's Western Conference with a 13-22-3-1 record just 4 points behind Sarnia and seven behind Flint. The Soo Greyhounds are currently placed 2nd in the Western Conference with a 26-12-2-1 record. Most recently, they faced the North Bay Battalion where they lost 6-3.
Thursday's contest will be the fourth of six meetings this season between the two clubs. The Soo took the first three games. Over the past five seasons, the Spitfires are 18-8-2-0 overall against the Greyhounds and 9-4-1-0 at home.

Liam Greentree (NHL draft eligible) leads the Spitfires in points (55), goals (23) and assists (32). Greentree has an nine-game point streak going with 16 points in during that span (4 goals, 12 assists).
Valentin Zhugin is second in scoring with 30 points. He is currently on a three-game point streak and has collected 5 points in his last three games (2 goals, 3 assists).
Ryan Abraham has been on a heater as of late as he has an eleven-game point streak. He has collected 18 points over that span (11 goals, 7 assists).

Scouting the Greyhounds:
Their last time out, the Wolves lost to the North Bay Battalion 6-3. Gavin Hayes recorded two assists and was named the games first star in the loss.
Jack Beck (Calgary Flames) currently leads the Greyhounds with 51 points (16G, 35A). He has been held scoreless his last two games and will looking to return to the scoresheet on Thursday.
Marco Mignosa is currently second in points with 42, he has 17 goals and 25 assists this season. He has 12 points in his last 11 games.
Gavin Hayes (Chicago Blackhawks) was acquired at the deadline and currently sits third in points on the Greyhounds with 21 goals and 19 assists in 29 games with Flint. He returns from the World Junior Championship with a gold medal with Team USA.
Owen Allard has been a point per game player this season with 31 points in 31 games. The Canadian World Junior player has 6 points in his last three games.
Looking at the tenders, they have Charlie Schenkel who carries the bulk of the load with a 70/30 split with rookie Landon Miller. Schenkel has appeared in 29 games with a 3.12 GAA and a .885 SV%.

The Windsor Spitfires will head to Brantford for a Saturday afternoon contest at 4:05pm before heading to Oshawa on Sunday for a 2:05pm puck drop.
