Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Sleep in Heavenly Peace charity are a relatively new CRA Registered Charity servicing the Windsor ~ Essex region. They are a 100% volunteer based, a 100% donation based, a locally lead and run grass roots charity that has a vision to "end child bedlessness" and on a mission to ensure that "no child sleeps on the floor in our town." While they accept online donations we also have a brick and mortar donation centre located in Z's Auto at 11293 Tecumseh Rd E, Windsor, ON N8r 1B1. They accept in kind donations of new twin sized sheet sets, new twin sized comforters, new pillows for twin sized beds, new twin sized mattresses.
Their research shows that 2% - 3% of all children in every community are bedless and sleep in less-than-ideal situations. They estimate a minimum of 1900 children are in need in our community.
Our charity creates team building events where members of a business/organization/community help these kids by working along side our team-mentors and building beds for kids. Yes, we actually engage community members in handcrafting our twin sized wooden bed frames. Little if any power tool experience is required.
Anyone knowing of a child between the ages of 3 years and 17 years who does not have a bed and cannot afford a bed can apply for one of our handcrafted beds online at https://shpbeds.ca/apply/. Once we confirm that there is indeed a need, we will arrange to deliver and install in the child's home one of our hand-crafted bed frames complete with a new bedding ensemble. As such, each child receives one of our brand-new twin sized handcrafted bed frames (or bunk bed), a new mattress, a new set of sheets, a new comforter, and a new pillow. The per unit cost of a complete bed and ensemble is $450.00.
In less than 16 months they have delivered 167 beds to needy children in our community. The demand for our beds is increasing and we can not meet the demand or help these children with out your support.
As such, today's $480.00 cheque will help a child get off the floor and sleep in a bed. We thank the Windsor Spitfires for their kindness and support.
