Windsor Spitfires News Release

WINDSOR, ON - The Spitfires were looking to right the ship after a shootout loss last time out to Sarnia. The Spitfires have been on a skid as of late going 2-7-0-1 in their last ten games.

In the first period, it was a relatively slow period however the Spitfires were able to break the deadlock first. Greentree would open the scoring with his 28th on the year from Woodall and Abraham just seven minutes into this one. Just three minutes later the Spitfires would double their lead to 2-0. Martin wrapped-around the net and potted his third goal of the year. The goal was assisted by Morneau and Walton. After the first period, the shots were even at just 6 a piece.

In the second period, it was a much different story as the Otters would score four unanswered goals and take a 4-2 lead heading into the third period. The Otters outshot the Spitfires 13-4 in the period and had a 19-10 lead through 2 periods.

In the third period, the Spitfires would go to an early penalty kill and an important one as they were down 2 goals. On the ensuing penalty kill, the Spitfires would strike shorthanded as Abraham potted in his own rebound, Davis had the lone assist. The Otters would then get into some penalty trouble and the Spitfires would take advantage. Spellacy got the puck to Greentree and his shot hit of 3 bodies and to Davis who scored his 17th of year. We were tied 4-4 with over 14 minutes to play. With just six minutes remaining the Spitfires would restore their lead off the rush. Toure got the puck to Spellacy and he dropped it back to Martin who would snipe his second of the game with a beautiful shot. The Spitfires were up 5-4 with just over six minutes to play. It was then crunch time as the Spitfires shut down the Otters and skated away to a big win.

The Spitfires are back in action on Friday in London for a 7:05pm puck drop. Following that the Spitfires return home to the WFCU Centre for a matchup vs the Owen Sound Attack. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
