Windsor Spitfires News Release

WINDSOR, ON. The Spitfires reached the 30-win mark on the season as they defeated the visiting Soo Greyhounds by a score of 7-4.

In the first period, it was the same story as Sunday in the Soo as the Spitfires offence flew high. Three goals in the first 13 minutes of play from Maggio, Peer and Wright gave the Spitfires an early lead. The Soo would 24 seconds after Windsor's 3rd goal to make it a 3-1 game. However, blueliner James Jodoin changed that with a blast just over a minute later to restore the 3 goal lead and the Spits 4-1 advantage. With one second remaining in the period, Smith would score 16th of the season to make it 5-1. Shots were tied 16-16 after the frame.

In the second period, Smith would score his 2nd of the night just 2 minutes in the period and give the Spitfires a 6-1 lead. The Soo would score with 13 minutes left in the period to make it a 6-2 game. Just 4 minutes later the Soo would strike again and cut the lead in half 6-3. The Soo would dominate puck possession in the Spitfire zone but would fail to score. That would be the end of period 2, shots were even 27 all.

In the third period, the Soo would score to make it a 6-4 game as the pressure mounted. Both Morneau and Wright left the game during the 2nd period and never returned. The Spits would add an empty net goal from Maggio to cap off a 7-4 victory.

The Spitfires are back in action on Saturday as the Hamilton Bulldogs are in town for Superhero night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm. The Spitfires are then set to play the Owen Sound Attack on Sunday for YourTV Hockey Day in the OHL. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
