Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON - The Windsor Spitfires will be looking ahead to the regular season after a 1-4-0 preseason record. The Spitfires were without 10 regular players from last seasons team due to injuries and NHL Camps.
In the first period, the Sting got on the board first with a powerplay goal from Lane Sim. Just six minutes later, the Spitfires would tie the game at 1. Greentree passed the puck up to Abraham at the blue line and he skated into the zone and shot it at the net, the rebound bounced off Struthers and into the goal for his 1st of the preseason. The shots were 10-7 in favour of Sarnia after 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Sting would take the lead with another powerplay goal. They would follow it up with an even-strength goal just a minute and 41 seconds later to take a 3-1 lead halfway through the frame. The Spitfires would strike back with a goal from Greentree, his 3rd of the preseason. The Spitfires trailed 3-2 on the scoreboard after 40 minutes and 22-15 in shots.
In the third period, the Sting would add 2 more goals to take a 5-2 lead before the Spitfires could respond. Castle scored with just over three minutes left however that would do for the Spitfires offence as the Sting hit a later empty netter and took the game 6-3.
The Spitfires are back in action for the regular season on the road on Friday September 29th in Sarnia for a 7:05pm puck drop. The home opener is scheduled for September 30th against the Guelph Storm. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
