Spirit Close Preseason at Home against Greyhounds

Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit will play their final preseason game at home against the Soo Greyhounds on Saturday, September 23rd, at the Dow Event Center.

The Saginaw Spirit battled the Soo Greyhounds on Friday, September 22, in Sault Ste. Marie in a high-scoring matchup. Will Bishop, Calem Mangone, Valentin Zhugin, Michael Misa, Roberto Mancini and rookie Aiden Young all scored their first goals of the preseason in a 10-6 loss. Soo rookie Brady Martin put together a four-point (3G, 1A) performance, while Travis Hayes and Marco Mignosa each collected three assists. Julian Fantino, Brenden Sirizzotti, and Owen Allard each picked up their first goals of the preseason, while Charlie Schenkel stopped 20 of 26 Spirit shots. Kaleb Papineau stopped 20 of 30 for Saginaw in his second career preseason appearance.

Players to watch:

Aiden Young and Michael Misa each recorded a goal and two assists last night and are looking to continue building as the preseason comes to a close. CHL Import Draft selection Valentin Zhugin currently leads the team with four preseason points (2G, 2A). Goaltender Kaleb Papineau has seen the most work for Saginaw in the preseason, while Brett Fullerton looks was perfect in his 12-save appearance at Erie Insurance Arena earlier this month.

Brady Martin has impressed in the preseason so far, leading the Soo in both goals (4) and points (6). Owen Allard and Marco Mignosa split the team assist lead with four each. Goaltender Landon Miller holds top goaltending marks with a 3.47 GAA and .868 SV%. While he is not expected to be in the lineup tonight, the Greyhounds acquired overager Jack Beck from the Ottawa 67's yesterday afternoon for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick. Beck notched 12G-41A -53P in 45 games with the 67's last season.

Saginaw currently has four (4) players drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL), including Joey Willis (Nashville), Matyas Sapovliv (Vegas), Hunter Haight (Minnesota), and Braden Haché (Florida)

Sault Ste. Marie has four (4) players drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL), including Bryce McConnell-Barker (New York Rangers), Arttu Karki (Vegas), Andrew Gibson (Detroit), and Kirill Kudryavtsev (Vancouver)
