Windsor Spitfires News Release
The London Knights travelled down the 401 for a matchup in Windsor to take on the red-hot Spitfires. Sportsnet was in town, making the game a massive success for the Spitfires. The attendance of the game was 5866. The season series headed into tonight's game was 2-1 in favour of the Spitfires.
In the first frame, the pace was slow no teams wanting to make a mistake. It was the London Knights who got on the scoreboard first. A point-shot through some traffic found the back of the net making it 1-0 just 7:33 into the game. However, the Spitfires responded just 6 minutes later. Douglas weaved his way over the line and ripped it through the defenceman and found the back of the net to tie the game. But the tie game didn't last long, with 3 seconds left in the period the Knights scored on a rebound to put them up 2-1. Shots were in favour of the Knights 13-6 after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, the Knights scored shorthanded just 5 minutes in to push the lead to 3-1. But ten minutes after that, Douglas gave a beautiful feed to Cuylle who streaked down the wing past the defenceman and ripped it post and it to bring the game within one goal. But with 2 minutes remaining the Knights scored two goals 21 seconds apart to push the game to 5-2.
In the third period, the Knights added another tally to make it 6-2 just over halfway into the frame. With 2 minutes left, the Spitfires D'Amico scored on the powerplay to make it 6-3. Time expired and London evened the season series with a final score of 6-3.
The Spitfires' next game is on the road as they travel to Sarnia for a matchup with the Sting Sunday afternoon. Puck drop at 4:05 pm.
