Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires were looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. They won last night in Peterborough by a score of 5-2 and were off to Kingston for a matchup with the Frontenacs.
In the first period, the Frontenacs got on the board first with a pretty passing play and Heyes finished it off just over three minutes into the game. Over seven and a half minutes later, the Spitfires were awarded a penalty shot as Spellacy was slashed on a breakaway. On the penalty shot, Spellacy would score five-hole to tie the game at 1. The Spitfires then ran into some defensive troubles giving up three goals in the span of 2 and a half minutes. Just 27 seconds later, the Spitfires would respond. Peer would strip the puck off the Frontenacs defenseman and go upstairs for his 10th of the season. The Spitfires trailed 16-11 in shots and 4-2 on the scoreboard heading into the second period.
In the second period, the Spitfires would have a lot powerplay opportunities but it backfired. The Frontenacs would score shorthanded to go up 5-2. On another powerplay a few minutes later, the Spitfires would strike as Greentree would snipe his team leading 14th goal of the campaign. The goal was assisted by Cristoforo and Maillet which made it a 5-3 game. The shots were 24-21 in favour of the Frontenacs after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Spitfires got on the board quick and made it a one goal game. Just under three minutes in, Smith fed Peer for a breakaway and he sniped his second of the night. Just over four minutes later, the Frontenacs would score courtesy of former Spitfire Jacob Holmes who made it a 6-4 game. The Spitfires would pull their netminder late to try to get back into the game, however fell short and lost 6-4.
The Spitfires are back in action on Sunday in the nation's capital of Ottawa. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05pm.
