Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires and Bulldogs got into a close affair before the Spitfires broke the game open and capitalized on their chances.

In the first period, the Spitfires outshot the Bulldogs 11-4 but had to settle for a 2-2 tie after 20 minutes. Hamilton's Morrison opened the scoring just over halfway through the period. With just 3 minutes left, the Spitfires tied it up. Renwick and D'Amico passed in center ice and gave the puck to Christopoulos, he walked in over the line and ripped a hard wrist shot top corner. Just two minutes later, Spitfires leading goal scorer Wyatt Johnston sniped his 12th of the post season from Zito and Cuylle. That lead was short lived as 26 seconds later Hamilton tied it.

In the second period, the Spitfires would control momentum and feed off the crowd. Just over 2 minutes into the period, Johnston scored his 2nd of the night on a beauty pass from Cuylle. Just over midway through the period, a DeAngelis point shot was tipped in front by Maillet to give the Spitfires a 4-2 lead. Miedema had the 2nd assist. The Spitfires led in shots 22-17 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, Christopoulos would whack home his own rebound just over 3 minutes in to extend the Spitfires lead to 5-2. Abraham and Ribau had assists on the goal. Just over halfway through the third, the Bulldogs scored on the powerplay to make it a 5-3 game. While the Bulldogs had time, the Spitfires played solid defensively and Onuska made several key stops down the stretch. Will Cuylle would add a late empty netter shorthanded to cap the 6-3 victory.

The Spitfires and Bulldogs have a few days rest and the series resumes on Friday in Windsor. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
