January 16, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release

Lynn, MA – The Florida Marlins have purchased the contract of North Shore Spirit right fielder Carlos Sepulveda. Sepulveda, 25, was traded to the Spirit in 2003 after playing one year for the now defunct Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs. Sepulveda finished the season with a .285 batting average with nine homeruns and 44 RBI, leading the Spirit to the Northeast League Championship.

Sepulveda, a Lake Jackson, Texas native enjoyed his time with the Spirit, but looks forward to a promising career in the major leagues. "I'm very excited for this opportunity and I'm extremely thankful for the experience I had with the Spirit. I'll miss everything about the team, from the players and fans to the coaches and management. My only wish was that we would have won it all in 2003."

"We are all very happy for Carlos", said North Shore Spirit owner Nick Lopardo. "Everyone in independent baseball is thrilled when a player moves to organized baseball with a shot at the major league dream. Carlos is a hardworking player and a great addition to any team. He greatly deserves this and we wish him the best of luck with the Florida Marlins organization."

For Sepulveda, this will be his first opportunity with an affiliated organization. As an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M University, Sepulveda hit .258 during his tenure in Albany with six homeruns and 27 RBI. A 2002 graduate from Texas A&M University, Sepulveda is now working to get his masters degree in Human Resource Development.

North Shore Spirit Director of Player Procurement Jeff Kunion says of Sepulveda, "Carlos was an integral part of our first-year team. I'm surprised that it took major league organizations three years to see how good he is. We'll miss him and we wish him the best."

The Spirit begin their second season at home on May 26 against the Allentown Ambassadors. North Shore Spirit season tickets, Mini-Plans and Bonus Books are now on sale for the 2004 season. You can purchase tickets by calling the box office at 781-592-0007.
