Sepulveda Sold to Marlins
January 16, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Durham, NCâAfter two seasons in the Northeast League, North Shore OF Carlos Sepulveda will get his chance in a major league organization. The North Shore outfielder has been sold to the Florida Marlins.
North Shore Spirit Director of Player Procurement Jeff Kunion says of Sepulveda, "Carlos was an integral part of our first-year team. I'm surprised that it took major league organizations three years to see how good he is. We'll miss him and we wish him the best."
Sepulveda, 25, signed with the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs in 2002 after being undrafted out of Texas A&M University. In his two seasons in the Northeast League, Sepulveda hit .275 with 15 home runs and 71 RBI's.
In 2003, Sepulveda had a breakout season finishing fifth in the league in walks (39) and third in on-base percentage (.398) as a member of the North Shore Spirit. Sepulveda started the season hot hitting 10-24 (.417) in the month of May. He played a career-high 80 games in the outfield as the Spirit advanced to the finals in its inaugural season.
Sepulveda transferred to Texas A&M after one season at the University of Texas. He played two seasons in the Cape Cod League, a collegiate wooden bat summer league.
