Head-to-Head

The Spirit played on of their better games all season on Monday evening in London, falling in the end 6-5 to the Knights. The score was 2-1 in favor of London heading into the third period, but the floodgates opened for both teams, scoring a total of eight goals in the period. In the end, it was the Knights, who were led by four-point games from Nashville Predators prospect Luke Evangelista and Dallas Stars prospect Antonio Stranges, that came out on top. This is the third of four meetings this season. The Knights and Spirit will meet again to close out the regular season Apr. 16 at The Dow Event Center.

Last Time Out

Saginaw: The Spirit soared out to a three-goal lead over the Kitchener Rangers in the first period Wednesday night at The Dow Event Center. It was the Kitchener power play that brought them back into the game, scoring three goals with the extra player and tying the game at four in the third period. Following the conclusion of a major penalty, the Rangers took the lead on a goal from Los Angeles Kings prospect Francesco Pinelli. The Spirit were unable to tie with the goalie pulled late in the game, and fell 5-4.

London: The Knights also skated last on Wednesday, taking a 6-5 shootout loss to Midwest Division rival, Guelph. The Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead one minute into the second period, but the Knights answered with four straight, including two from Antonio Stranges. Up 4-2 midway through the third period, the Storm blew back, scoring three in a row to take the lead. The third goal coming from Sasha Pastujov with just 4:13 remaining. The Knights would tie with their goaltender pulled on a Cody Morgan goal to force overtime. With no scoring in overtime, the teams went to the shootout. Valentin Zhugin scored the winning goal to give Guelph the extra point in the standings.
