Spirit Tally 3 Consecutive Goals for 3-1 Win over Otters

(Erie, PA) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Erie Otters 3-1 Saturday night. The Spirit started out with a 1-0 deficit but the offense kicked in and tallied 3 consecutive goals to give the Spirit their first win of the weekend. Ryan McDonough notched a goal and an assist; Jan Mursak had a two point game as well with 2 assists on the night. The win moves Saginaw's record to 8-9-2-1, good for 19 points.

The first period of action saw scoring from both squads. The Otters were the first to get on the scoreboard, when winger Kelly Geoffrey tallied a power play goal at the 3:30 mark. Center Justin Hodgman and defenseman Frank Grzeszczak assisted on the only Erie goal of the evening. Spirit center Ryan McDonough would score a power play marker to tie up the game at 4:45 in the first, assisted by winger Jan Mursak (DET).

The Spirit would continue their momentum into the second period. Winger Tomas Zaborsky (NYR) scored at 3:59 in the second to give the Spirit a 2-1 lead. Winger Chris Chappell and Mursak assisted on the goal. Moments later Jack Combs, assisted by Ryan McDonough, would extend Saginaw's lead to 3-1 with a goal at the 9:32 mark. The second period ended 3-1 Saginaw; the period also saw Saginaw's special teams' killing off over 5:00 minutes of 5-on-3 penalty situations.

The Otters would continue to battle the Spirit until the end of the third period, but were unable to get back on the scoreboard. The game ended 3-1 Saginaw.

Ryan Daniels (OTT) was posted in Saginaw's net tonight, turning back 34 shots in the effort. Goalie Jaroslav Janus saw action at the other end of the ice for Erie, accumulating 36 saves.
