North Shore Spirit News Release
Behind a quality start from John Kelly, the North Shore Spirit defeated the Brockton Rox 3-1 in the rubber game on Thursday night at Fraser Field.
Kelly earned his fourth victory of the season for the Spirit, while Brad Guy took the loss. Ryan McCally recorded the last out of the game to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Kelly pitched six full innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven Brockton batters. With the victory, North Shore (12-11) got back over .500 while Brockton dropped to 14-13.
For the third time this series, Brockton got on the board first. Saul Bustos got things started with a first-inning double and scored on a throwing error by Yuri Sanchez.
North Shore tied things up in the bottom of the fourth inning with a double from Brian Macchi and an RBI single from Stephen Carter. Carter, getting the start in left field for the Spirit, was 2-4 on the game.
The Spirit took their first lead in the fifth inning on a home run from Travis Oglesby. The solo shot was Oglesby's seventh on the season and second of the series.
Sanchez extended North Shore's lead in the sixth with an RBI single. Eric Storey singled to get things started and then stole second before scoring on Sanchez's base hit to right field.
Brockton struggled to get anything going offensively after the first inning. The Rox had seven hits on the game, but grounded into two key double plays.
Alex Herrera made his first appearance at Fraser Field, relieving Kelly in the seventh. He pitched an inning and two thirds before giving way to Ryan McCally for the final out of the night.
After the game, North Shore headed out on the road for series with the New Haven County Cutters and the New Jersey Jackals.
