The North Shore Spirit ran their record to 5-2 Sunday afternoon with an impressive 9-3 win over the Worcester Tornadoes.
John Kelly (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season for the Spirit. Kelly went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. Mike Cox (0-1) took the loss for the Tornadoes.
North Shore grabbed a 2-0 lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Spirit broke the game open in the fifth against the Worcester bullpen. After three walks loaded the bases, Alex Trezza drilled a double down th line in left, scoring two. Garrett Weir then doubled home Trezza and Rob Fischer, putting North Shore ahead 6-0.
Worcester broke up Kelly's shutout bid with a pair of runs in the sixth, but the Spirit responded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Travis Oglesby connected for his third long ball of the season, a majestic shot over the wall in left.
The two teams traded runs in the seventh. Marcos Agramonte's third hit of the game drove home Andy Howdeshell, putting the Spirit ahead 9-3.
The Spirit will host the New Haven County Cutters on Tuesday, June 7 at Fraser Field. Game time is set for 7:05PM.
