Spirit Start off Weekend with 4-2 Win Over Colts

The Saginaw Spirit beat the Barrie Colts 4-2 Thursday night at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw. Anthony Camara tallied the game winning goal to earn the first star honors, with Jordan Szwarz and Vince Trocheck also knocking in goals. John McFarland tallied the insurance marker with an empty net goal. The Spirit lead the OHL West Division with 74 points and a record of 35-16-3-1.

Barrie opened scoring with winger Petr Berabek scoring at the 6:54 mark of the first from center Eric Locke and former Spirit blueliner Matt Ashman. The Spirit would respond to the tune of three consecutive goals capping off the first period with Saginaw leading 3-1. Center Vincent Trocheck scored at 7:42 to tie up the game, courtesy assists from winger Garret Ross and defenseman Ben Chariot. Winger Jordan Szwarz made it 2-1 with a goal at the 17:20 mark from winger Josh Shalla and defenseman Dalton Prout, then at the 18:54 mark winger Anthony Camara made it 3-1 with a goal from center Mathew Sisca and center Ivan Telegin.

The Colts would reduce the deficit to 3-2 in the second frame, with winger Steven Beyers scoring from center Colin Behenna at 12:57. Barrie would continue to push into the final seconds of the third period, pulling their goalie John Chartrand for an extra attacker while also on the power play, giving the Colts a 6-on-4 man advantage. Spirit center John McFarland would stymie their efforts, scoring an empty net shorthanded goal with one second remaining to secure the Spirit victory.

Spirit goalie Tadeas Galansky would notch 32 saves on 34 shots, while the Colts's Chartrand posted 36 saves on 39 shots.
