Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, Mich. - Spirit GM Dave Drinkill announced Wednesday afternoon that the team has signed defenseman Kaden Sienko (see-EN-ko) to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. A 6'2" right-handed blueliner, the Spirit drafted Sienko in the 13th round of this year's OHL Priority Selection.
"As an organization, we are thrilled to be able to sign Kaden today," said Drinkill. "He's a player that came to development camp last weekend and made an impression the moment he walked through the door."
"I'm so honored and thrilled to be a part of this amazing organization," said Sienko. "The part that sealed the deal for me was the great group of people I met while in Saginaw who made this place feel like home. I knew after my first step into the Dow Event Center that this was something I wanted to be a part of."
Sienko captained the South Kent School 15U team during the 2023-24 season. The Binghamton, NY native led all South Kent defensemen in scoring, clocking in just shy of a point-per-game performance through 42 games (10G-28A-38P).
"Off the ice, his character and leadership made it immediately clear why he was the captain of his South Kent team last season," said Drinkill. "On the ice, his skating, mobility, and puck skills in small area play really stood out for a player of his size. He was able to absorb a lot of information very quickly and apply it on the ice during drills and practices."
At 6'2" and 185lbs, Sienko clocks in as the largest of Saginaw's 11 skaters picked in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.
"A smooth skating, skilled, right shot defenseman with size is hard to find at that age," said Drinkill. "We really believe as a staff that he is just starting to scratch the surface of his abilities as he gains experience in our league. We are looking forward to being able to help him grow his game in the coming years here with the Spirit."
Sienko will wear #23 when he joins the Spirit for the start of the 2024-25 season.
