Owen Sound, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit (42-15-0-1) will take on the Owen Sound Attack (26-24-5-3) on March 2nd, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

Last Time:

The Saginaw Spirit faced off against the Brantford Bulldogs in a rematch on Friday, March 1st, at the Brantford Civic Centre. Owen Beck scored the first goal of the night but two Brantford goals coming from Florian Xhekaj and Zakary Lavoie gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead going into the third. Marek Vanacker scored another goal for Brandtford, extending their lead to two. A pair of Spirit goals from Calem Mangone and Zayne Parekh sent the game into overtime. And just like last week, Parekh scored the game winner in overtime to beat the Brantford Bulldogs, 4-3. Andrew Oke stopped 18 of 20 shots in his 24th win of the year.

Owen Sound traveled to the Sleeman Centre to face the Guelph Storm on Friday, March 1st. Declan Waddick scored the first goal of the night in the first followed by Braeden Bowman tying the game in the second. Charlie Paquette scored late in third but Servac Petrovsky managed to tie the game at 2 apiece, sending the game into overtime. No goals were scored in OT so the game was sent into a shootout where Jett Luchanko sealed the deal to give Guelph a 3-2 victory. Carter George started in net for the Attack, stopping 34 of 37 in the loss.

This Season:

The Saginaw Spirit and Owen Sound Attack last faced once this season on February 9th at the Dow Event Center in a game that ended in overtime. Michael Misa scored the first and only goal in the first period, giving Saginaw the lead. Cedrick Guindon scored for the Attack but Owen Beck soon scored a goal of his own to regain the lead. Owen Sound goals coming from Sam Sedley and Cedrick Guindon gave the Attack their first lead of the night. However, Zayne Parekh scored late in the second, tying the game 3-3 heading into the third period. Two additional goals for both teams, one from Ethan Burroughs and another from Owen Beck, sent the game into overtime tied at four apiece. Zayne Parekh scored his second goal of the night with less than a minute left in overtime to give Saginaw the 5-4 victory. Andrew Oke started for the Spirit saving 24 of 28 shots while George Carter started for the Attack saving 47 of 52.

Players to Watch:

Zayne Parekh leads the Saginaw Spirit in both points (84) and assists (54). Parekh is also tied for first on the team in goal with 30, placing him first among OHL Defencemen in goals and points. Montreal prospect Owen Beck is currently tied with Parekh in goals (30) with eight coming on the powerplay. Andrew Oke currently leads Saginaw in all major goaltending categories, including a 3.01 goals against average (GAA), an .888 save percentage (SV%), 24 wins, and one shutout.

Deni Goure leads the Attack in points (82) and assists (51) while also being placed second in goals (30). Colby Barlow leads the team in goals with 32. 14 of Barlows goals have been power play goals, placing him second in the OHL. Carter George leads Owen Sound in all major goaltending categories, including a 3.09 GAA, a league leading .913 SV%, 20 wins, and four shutouts (tied for first in the OHL).

Saginaw currently has ten (10) players tied to the National Hockey League (NHL), including Joey Willis (Nashville), Josh Bloom (Vancouver), Matyas Sapovaliv (Vegas), Hunter Haight (Minnesota), Owen Back (Montreal), Ethan Hay (Tampa Bay), Braden Haché (Florida), Jorian Donovan (Ottawa), Rodwin Dionicio (Anaheim) and Nolan Lalonde (Columbus, FA).

Owen Sound has four (4) players tied to the National Hockey League (NHL), including Cedrick Guindon (Montreal), Servac Petrovsky (Minnesota), Colby Barlow (Winnipeg), and Konnor Smith (Anaheim).
