Spirit Rally in Third, Battle Peterborough to 6-5 Loss

Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit fought the Peterborough Petes to a 6-5 loss Friday night at TheDow Event Center. Center Michael Sgarbossa led the team in scoring with one goal and two assists. Winger Jordan Szwarz also contributed a goal and an assist in the effort. The loss moves Saginaw's record to 16-9-2-0 for the season.
Peterborough scored the only goal of the first period with a powerplay tally from winger Mike Lomas at 10:27. Assists on the play were credited to defenseman Adam Sedlak and center Liam Heelis. The period ended with the score 1-0. In the second, the visiting Petes accounted for the period's only goal, scored on a powerplay by center Ryan Spooner at 10:26. He was assisted on the play by wingers Mike Lomas and Pat Daley. The score at the end of the second stood at 2-0.
The Spirit rallied in the third, as center Tyler Murovich scored on the powerplay 7:07 into the period. The Saginaw captain was assisted on the goal by wingers Jordan Skellet and Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHEONIX COYOTES). The Spirit scored again at 7:28 on a goal from center Vincent Trocheck to tie the game at 2-2. Assists on the goal went to center Michael Sgarbossa and blueliner Ryan O'Connor. Peterborough regained the lead at 8:50 on a powerplay goal from Daley, assisted by defenseman Jamie Doornbosch and center Ryan Spooner. Spooner added another goal at 10:47, giving the Petes a 4-2 lead. He was assisted by Liam Heelis and winger David Quesnele. The Spirit responded with an unassisted, shorthanded goal from Sgarbossa at 13:02. Shortly after, Daley notched a goal at 14:30, assisted by center Ryan Spooner and defenseman Adrian Robertson. Heelis then found the net for the Petes, adding a goal at 16:19. Assists on the play were credited Lomas and Spooner. The Spirit stayed in the game, scoring a powerplay goal from winger Garrett Ross at 18:46. He was assisted by fellow winger Josh Shalla and defenseman Ryan O'Connor. Saginaw scored the final goal of the game as Szwarz found the back of the net at 18:59. Michael Sgarbossa and winger Joe Pleckaitis tallied assists on the goal. The third period ended with Peterborough winning 6-5.
Spirit netminder Edward Pasquale (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) posted 37 saves on 43 shots, while Peterborough goaltender Andrew D'Agostini recorded 28 saves on 33 attempts.
