Spirit loss to Spitfires 9-5, Remain in Second Place

(Windsor, ON) - The Saginaw Spirit lost to division rival Windsor Spitfires 9-5 Sunday afternoon in Windsor. The loss takes the Spirit's record to 29-18-0-2; they remain second in the OHL West Division, nine points back of the division leading Plymouth Whalers.

Windsor opened the scoring at the 13:15 mark of the first period. D-man Keith Wynn scored an unassisted power play goal, giving the Spits a 1-0 lead. The Spirit knotted the game at 1-1 :44 seconds later. Center Tom Craig scored at the 13:59 mark, with defenseman Christopher Breen picking up the lone assist. The Spitfires would retake the lead at the 16:44 mark when right winger Ryan Baldwin scored Windsor's second unassisted goal of the game. The goal pushed the score to 2-1 for the Spits through the opening period of play.

The second period saw Windsor score a power play goal just :12 seconds into the frame. Spits rookie center Adam Henrique picked up the goal. The Spirit would reduce the Spits lead to one just :50 seconds later. Center Ryan McDonough found the back of net, after taking a pass from left winger Tomas Zaborsky (NYR 06) 1:02 into the period. Spitfires' left winger Bradley Snetsinger scored two consecutive goals, at 4:43 and 7:42 of the second, pushing Windsor's lead to 5-2 heading into the final period of play.

The third period brought plenty of scoring. Windsor extended their lead to 6-2 when center Greg Nemisz scored at the 2:05 mark of the third period. The Spirit answered :41 seconds later on a Tom Pyatt (NYR 05) goal, moving the score to 6-3. Left wingers Jan Mursak (DET 06) and Jack Combs assisted . Snetsinger notched the hat trick on a Spits power play at 5:34 of the period, pushing the Windsor lead to 7-3. Snetsinger also tallied a hat trick in last night's 5-4 Spirit victory over the Spits. Henrique scored a power play goal :32 seconds after Snetsinger. The goal came at 6:06, extending the Spits lead to 8-3. Zaborsky cut the deficit to 8-4 with a goal at the 6:29 mark, assisted by McDonough. Saginaw's Mursak scored on the power play at the 15:55 mark to make the score 8-5. Combs and Ryan O'Marra (NYI 05) assisted. Windsor's Baldwin added a late goal with 1:11 to play in the third period to make the final score 9-5 in favor of the Spitfires.

Spirit netminder Marc-Andre Perron started the game, letting in 5 goals. Goalie Ryan Daniels replaced him to finish out the game with 4 goals against.

The Spirit host the 2007 OHL All-Star Classic, presented locally by the Dow Chemical Company, this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Dow Event Center, then travel to Sault Ste. Marie on Friday to play the Greyhounds at 7:30 PM. The Spirit are back at home Saturday night to host the Erie Otters at 7:11 PM.
