
Spirit Lose to Storm; Playoff Series Stands Even

The Saginaw Spirit lost 6-2 to the Guelph Storm in game two of their playoff series Sunday night at the Sleeman Centre of Guelph, Ontario. The series stands tied at one game apiece, with the two teams squaring off for game three Monday night at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw at 7:11 PM. Sunday's loss also forces a game five in the series, to be played at The Dow Event Center Saturday, April 2 at 7:11 PM.
The Storm opened to take a three goal lead in the first period. Winger Cody McNaughton tallied a goal at 7:47 from center Michael Latta and defenseman Andrey Pedan, then moments later winger Richard Panik scored a power play marker at 15:49 from Pedan and winger Zack Mitchell. Winger Daniel Erlich made it 3-0 Storm with a power play marker at 16:23 from center Peter Holland. The Spirit would respond in the final seconds of the period however, with winger Josh Shalla scoring a power play goal from defenseman Peter Hermenegildo and winger Jordan Szwarz to make it 3-1.
The two teams traded goals in the early part of the second frame. Defenseman Sam Lofquist scored at the 4:03 mark from Holland and winger Taylor Beck to move the score to 4-1, then at 8:28 Shalla would tally his second of the night on the power play to make it 4-2. Winger Brandon Saad and center John McFarland assisted on the goal.
The Storm would increase their lead in the remaining minutes of the game. Mitchell scored at 11:30 in the second period from Lofquist and Latta, and Carroll scored a power play marker at 7:21 in the third period from McNaughton and Latta. The final two goals secured the Storm win, with a score of 6-2 in regulation.
Spirit goalie Mavric Parks would notch 27 saves on 33 shots, while the Storm goalie Brandon Foote posted 32 saves on 34 shots.
