Ottawa 67's News Release
The Sudbury Wolves edged the Ottawa 67's 8-7 in overtime in the opening game of their Eastern Conference playoff series at Scotia Bank Place. The Wolves top scoring line--Kuchin, Levio and Sgarbossa--combined for 16 points, including Kuchin's game winner at 3:06 of overtime.
For fans of offence, it was a great see-saw battle that kept everybody on the edge of their seats. Ryan Martindale scored 3 times for Ottawa while Tyler Toffoli and Thomas Nesbitt each added a pair. For fans of defence, it was a head-shaker but, again, one that kept them on the edge of their seats.
The Wolves Eric O'Dell cross-checked Tyler Toffoli head-first into the boards early in the first period earning a game misconduct that may grow into more sit-time once the League has reviewed the video. Given the spate of injuries the team has suffered this season, everybody in the building feared the worst but Toffoli bounced back and played well. Wolves Captain Marcus Foligno also introduced himself to the fans as a player with self-control issues with a spear to the groin of Dalton Smith in the opening minuteof play which drew only a slashing call.
The series now shifts to Sudbury for games 2 and 3...Monday and Tuesday (Rogers TV, Cable 22)...before shifting back to the 67's real home ice surface at the Rona Centre for games 4 and 5, Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's game starts at 7:00 PM.
