
Spirit Knock Off Majors, 6-4

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors 6-4 Friday night. Joe Pleckaitis added two points for the Spirit. In addition, Ryan Schnell notched his first goal as a Spirit player. The Spirit are in third place in the OHL Western Conference with 59 points and a record of 28-17-0-3.
The Spirit got on the scoreboard early on with a shorthanded goal at 10:06 in the first period. The goal was scored by defenseman Joe Underwood and assisted by center Joe Pleckaitis. The Majors responded with a goal from winger Ryan Lopes at the 15:06 mark. Defenseman Brett Flemming and winger Kaspars Daugavins (NHL OTTAWA SENATORS) assisted on the play, moving the score into a tie 1-1. The end of the period brought another goal for the Spirit after Underwood found the net at 16:15 in the period. Wingers Mitch Fillman and Ryan Schnell assisted on the play. The first period ended with the Spirit ahead, 2-1.
Majors winger William Wallen notched a goal for Mississauga after 16 seconds into the second period. Defenseman Cameron Gaunce (NHL COLORADO AVALANCHE) and winger Kaspars Daugavins (NHL OTTAWA SENATORS) assisted on the powerplay goal. It wasn't long before the Spirit answered back with a powerplay goal at 4:01 scored by winger Chris Chappell and assisted by defensemen Adam Comrie (NHL FLORIDA PANTHERS) and T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES). Spirit winger Jordan Szwarz added to the score as he knocked in a powerplay goal at 8:57 and was assisted by Chappell and Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES). The period ended with the Spirit ahead, 4-2. Defenseman Blake Parlett began the third with a goal for the Majors at 18 seconds into the period. Assists on the play were credited to center Casey Cizikas and defenseman Cameron Gaunce (NHL COLORADO AVANLANCHE). Spirit winger Ryan Schnell found the net, going unassisted and adding his first goal for the Spirit at 15:22. Following suit with another unassisted goal for the Spirit was Comrie, who secured0 a point for the team at the 17:34 mark. Kaspars (NHL OTTAWA SENATORS) added one more point for the Majors with a powerplay goal at 18:29 and assisted by Wallen and Gaunce (NHL COLORADO AVALANCHE). The match-up ended with the Spirit ahead, 6-4.
Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale posted 33 saves and Mississauga netminder JP Anderson finished the game with 20 saves.
