Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Saginaw, MI - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors continued with their travels this evening, as they crossed the border to visit the home of the Saginaw Spirit.

Despite having been defeated 6-4 tonight, the Majors put in a strong effort as they had outshot the Spirit 37-26, while Cameron Gaunce and Kaspars Daugavins each had a three-point night. Mississauga's record now stands at 25-21-1-2 on the season.

Saginaw's Joe Pleckaitis got things started when he connected 10:06 (shorthanded) into the 1st period off of a lone pass from Joe Underwood. Ryan Lopes put the Majors on the board at 15:06 with help from Brett Flemming and Daugavins. Pleckaitis produced another goal for the Spirit at 16:15 to end the frame, while Mitch Fillman and Ryan Schnell provided the assists.

With only 16 seconds into the 2nd period, William Wallén tied the contest for Mississauga on a man-adavantage off of feeds from Gaunce and Daugavins. However, Saginaw's Chris Chappell and Jordan Szwarz each scored on power-plays at 4:01 and 8:57, respectively, to double up on the Majors, 4-2, heading into intermission. Adam Comrie, T.J. Brodie (2 assists) and Chappell were the helpers.

Mississauga opened up the scoring in the 3rd period, as Blake Parlett wired a shot into the home team's net 18 seconds into the frame. Casey Cizikas and Gaunce got the assists. Then, Schnell and Comrie each connected at 15:22 (unassisted) and at 17:34, respectively, to make it 6-3 for the Spirit. The Majors came back with a goal when Daugavins produced a marker at 18:29 off of passes from Wallén and Gaunce, but unfortunately time ran out, as Saginaw held onto the lead to take the win.

JP Anderson started between the pipes and turned aside 20 shots for the Majors, while Edward Pasquale made 33 saves for the Spirit. Mississauga went 2 for 7 on the power-play, while Saginaw finished 2 for 6 on the night. The game's three stars were Pleckaitis (1st), Chappell (2nd) and Daugavins (3rd).
