Spirit Host Sting on Student / Military Ticket Rush Night

Saginaw, Michigan - The Saginaw Spirit (13-9-1-2 29pts.) returns home Thursday, November 29, to take on the Sarnia Sting (11-11-2-2 26pts.) for the third meeting of the season between the West Division rivals. The Spirit are holding a $5 student and military ticket rush for the game presented by Reder Landscaping. The game is set for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop at The Dow Event Center.

Saginaw is 2-0-0-1 since Chris Lazary took over as head coach on November 18. The Spirit are coming off a victory over the Owen Sound Attack in the third game of a Northern Ontario road trip.

Arizona Coyotes prospect Ivan Prosvetov was awarded with Sunday's OHL first star honors for his effort in the victory. The Russian goaltender completed his second shutout of the season, making a season high 48 saves in the game. Provetov has a .962 save percentage in his last two appearances allowing just three goals.

Saginaw's first round pick Cole Perfetti added to his impressive rookie campaign with his 11th goal of the season, bringing him into a tie for the team-lead in goals. Perfetti is second in goals and fourth in points among all OHL rookies this season.

The other player tied for the Spirit team-lead with 11 goals is captain Damien Giroux. The Minnesota Wild prospect scored the game winner in Owen Sound and has been a strong leader on and off the ice for Saginaw.

Saginaw comes into Thursday's game fourth in the Western Conference with 29 points, three points ahead of eight place Sarnia. The Spirit has dropped the first two meetings of the season against the Sting.

Hugo Leufvenius leads all Sarnia skaters with 17 goals and 31 points. The Stockholm, Sweden native has one goal and five points in eight games in his career against the Spirit.

Grosse Pointe, Michigan native Mitch Eliot leads the Sarnia defense core with 25 points on the season. The former Michigan State University commit is fifth among all OHL defenseman in points.

Saginaw's leading scorer from the blue line is Plymouth, Michigan native Bode Wilde. The New York Islander's prospect is ninth among OHL defenseman with 20 points in just 19 games.

Sarnia is 13-5-1-1 against the Saginaw Spirit since Derian Hatcher became head coach in the 2015-16 season. The Sterling Heights, Michigan native played 16 seasons in the NHL for four different teams, including the Detroit Red Wings. Hatcher is also the part-owner of the Sarnia Sting, along with fellow NHLer David Legwand.

The Spirit bring in the West Division leading Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Saturday, December 1 with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. The CAN Council presents 'Super Hero Night' at The Dow, with some fans receiving a promotional super hero cape upon entering the arena. Some fan favorite super heroes will be featured in the Budweiser Red Room beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a post-game jersey auction following the game. Saturday will be the fourth game of the season between the division rivals, with the Spirit winning two of the first three meetings.
