Saginaw Spirit News Release

Saginaw, MI. - The Saginaw Spirit announced Tuesday their home opening game of the 2022-23 season will take place Saturday, October 1, 2022 with the Spirit hosting the Midwest Division's Guelph Storm at The Dow Event Center at 7:05 p.m. ET.

This is the third time in the history of the Spirit will open their home docket with an engagement with the Storm. In the home opener of the 2016-17 season, the Storm were led by a 40-save performance from Liam Herbst, edging the Spirit, 2-1. Back in 2006, the Storm received another strong goaltending performance to upend the Spirit. Despite a three-point night from former Detroit Red Wings draft pick Tyler Haskins, Guelph cashed in on a second period, natural hat trick from Mike McLean. Storm netminder Jason Guy made 42-saves en route to a 4-2 final.

All-time, the Spirit are 8-10-1-0 in their home opening game and 3-6-0-0 when their home opener is the first game of the regular season.

This marks the first time that the Spirit have started a regular season schedule at home in back-to-back seasons since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
