
Spirit Have Spark on Tony C Night

The North Shore Spirit defeated the Brockton Rox 5-4 in the tenth inning at the New Fraser Field in Lynn. On Tony Conigliaro Night, the Spirit would have made the former Red Sox and St. Mary's star proud. North Shore's Rob Fischer showed the Tony C homerun swing to win the game in the tenth inning.
Bryan Morse pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs. Joe Ricciardi pitched one inning of relief to give up one run, and Keith Strickland picked up the win for the Spirit pitching the tenth inning. Connor Brooks got the loss for Brockton.
The Rox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning after a doubles by Bobby Brown and Francisco Matos and a single by Saul Bustos. The Spirit retaliated in the fifth when Rob Fischer singled and stole second, Marcos Agramonte walked and John Schmitz doubled to score Fischer and Agramonte.
In front of a crowd of 2,887, the Spirit and the Rox each scored an additional run to tie the score at three. In the top of the ninth inning Brockton got singles from Nestor Smith, Francisco Matos, and Saul Bustos. Mike Torres had a sacrifice fly to score Smith.
The Spirit again retaliated in the bottom of the ninth after singles by Agramonte and Schmitz. Carlos Sepulveda blasted a double to centerfield that scored Agramonte to tie the score and send the two teams to extra innings.
Rob Fischer was the hero of the game with a two-out, solo homerun in the tenth to win the game for the Spirit.
The Spirit and the Rox finished with 13 hits apiece. Agramonte finished 2-3 and Schmitz and Fischer went 3-5. Brockton's Matos, Brown and Bustos were also 3-5 for the night.
The Spirit play game three on Sunday at 1:30 pm at Fraser Field. Sunday is Spirit Sprout Day where all members of the St. Jean's Spirit Sprouts receive free admission and can run the bases after the game.
July 27 is also Dick "Monster" Radatz Day at the New Fraser Field. Join the Spirit as we honor Dick Radatz, Red Sox great and Spirit pitching coach. In honor of the Monster, the first 1,000 fans through the gate will get a one-of- a-kind keepsake, an inflatable "monster" Hand.
